lethargic madagascar hissing roach question

My male madagascar hissing roach, Jager, is acting strange. He is lethargic, sitting exposed to the light, when I pet him his rear end moves a little but otherwise he's not moving.  I thought he was dead for a moment when I got home cos he didn't move when I touched his antenna (I touch it to say hello and let him know I'm there)... how would I know if he was molting or dying? His friend Booga died a few months ago and they are around the same age. :( I moved him across the tank to a dark spot on a moist sponge.
